I bought this pedometer hoping that it would motivate me to walk more. Needless to say, it’s been sitting on my desk since I bought it 3 weeks ago because it’s useless. It took me about 30 minutes to program it when I got it. Once I started using it, I found it was INCREDIBLY inaccurate. I would be sitting at my desk and look down and it would be counting steps. If I was walking it would count steps and add an additional 5 once I stopped. I found this pedometer to be useless.

Great watch. Had it for about two years now. Worn it while trekking in Peru (Inca Trail), Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, etc….Trick is to calibrate it often – like most barometric watches…Quality is an issue with the watch though. After a few months of wearing it, the rubber surrounds of the watch started to separate from the casing!!! Customer service is excellent from Highgear though. They replaced it with a new watch after I sent the old one to them. No questions asked (except for proof of purchase)…

Highgear Alterra Computer Watch with Altimeter, Barometer, Compass, and Thermometer (Shadow)
I haven’t yet used it to the fullest, and probably never will. I purchased this for hunting and hiking as a double backup for my compass (I carry an analog compass as well as a Garmin Colorado GPS with electronic compass). For this purpose it work wonderfully and appears to be very accurate. Also, as a side note, I had read reviews where people have had warranty issues with Highgear if purchased from a non-authorized dealer. Before purchasing I contacted Highgear and was assured that Amazon is an authorized dealer.

Pros: This watch has everything. From the moment i took it out of the box I was impressed with it’s look and feel. Everything that is described to the buyer is there.
Cons:the watch band is a little stiff, the band is hard to get into the holder. A little labor intensive on setup.

I have owned a Alterra since April 2007 ( It is now 2009). Yes, the watch requires you to read the manual and work with the watch for a bit, but the results are very useful outdoors. I particularly enjoy using the altimeter function, and use it when backpacking, supplementing elevation profiles on my maps. The altitude function allows me to very accurately pinpoint my location in a way that reading the topo map and terrain view doesn’t, especially when it is crappy outside and you can’t see.
I bought the watch at the start of my AT thru hike in Virginia in May of 2007. I am really heard on gear, and have had to access customer service twice, once for a delamination of the rubber housing around the bevel, and recently for a tear in the housing where the pin holding the strap is inserted. Both times, I received an immediate email response, and a new watch followed. Each time it took only 6 days from when I sent in the watch to receive the new one. In the real world gear breaks. It is my experience that Highgear has given me superior customer service. I bought a second watch as a gift, and highly recommend this unit.

My wife bought me an Alterra for Christmas last year. For the most part I was happy with it. I had a few problems with the stop watch not working correctly, no big deal. This morning I found moisture inside the display. I never opened the case, yet it allowed water inside. Not very impressive. I expected better from a 130 dollar watch.

I love this pedometer it works great and is easy to figure out. I love the panic alarm it truly is loud enough to alert others around you that you may need help. The memory is awesome I use it for the 5 days at work that a co-worker and I walk and I can keep track of last weeks walk so I can increase my distance each week. The numbers are large enough to read without my reading glasses on. I clip it thru my belt loop onto my pocket so if it falls off I will not lose, however it is very secure clipped to my pocket. A great buy you will not be sorry you purchased this.

I tried printing my readings on regular paper and it did not work. However, when I went back to Omron Thermal Printing Paper for Blood Pressure Monitors it printed nicely.

The replacement paper is approximately 1/2 the size of the “original” paper that came with the machine. Perhaps this is a mixed blessing in disguise; because the original thermal paper became more “yellow”, in time. However, and at the end of the day– the replacement paper installed easily and performed as expected.

I paid for 2,3 day delivery and did not receive the product for almost 2 weeks. I don’t know if it was the seller or the post office but I think it was shipped by mule train.

I purchased an Omron Blood Pressure Meter w/ Printer. When I ordered
extra paper, which I havent used as of yet, I expected to receive the same
size paper Roll that was in my printer. Instead, I received 5 Tiny Little
rolls, which contain about less than a quarter of the original roll on my
printer. I was not satisfied with the tiny rolls, which will lead to many
more changes of paper, and a needless inconvenience. The replacement
Rolls should be the same size as in the original printer in my opinion.
I still dont know at this time if the Replacement Rolls will fit on the
spindle in my Printer?? In any case, I was disappointed!
